Event description
Ecstatic Dance presents: Peia's "Night of Song"

About this Event

Peia's voice soars like the wind as she sings a love letter to our Earth and an ode to humanity. - Huffington Post

Ecstatic Dance presents Peia's "Night of Song" concert, featuring Liron Meyuhas on percussion and Rob Taylor on double bass.

Peia Luzzi is an American born song collector, writer and multi-instrumentalist based in the mountains of Southern Oregon. Like water from a deep well, she draws inspiration from her ancestral roots of Celtic and Old World European folk music. With the voice of a lark, Peia dances nimbly from Child Ballads and 17th C. Gaelic laments, to Waulking Songs, and Bulgarian mountain calls. She has traveled extensively over the past 10 years to uncover melodies wrinkled and wise with time, laboring to honor their language and stories, while bringing a piece of herself to each song she carries.

Recently returned from several months studying in the Gaeltachts (Irish speaking regions) of Western Ireland, this concert focuses on the songs and stories Peia gathered during her studies, as well as some old favorites.

A powerful voice in the rising global community of people who are committed to restoring a balanced relationship with the Earth, Peia expresses her holistic vision and passion through her music, educational workshops and advocacy for social and environmental rights groups.

This event is produced by Ecstatic Dance and honors the culture. This is an intentional gathering. Please remember—no talking, shoes, or tech on the dance floor!

OPENING ACT: MOIRA SMILEY

Moira marries her study of traditional folk-song with an avant-garde sensibility. She accompanies herself on banjo, accordion, piano and percussive movement while performing solo. Themes of real and metaphorical border crossings – hopeful immigrants, exiles in mourning, or each of us seeking belonging and empathy – are the backbone of this show. Moira Smiley’s performances bring elegance and grit to folk-songs, original and ancient.

Moira has toured in tUnE-yArDs, Irish super-group, Solas, the pioneering Jayme Stone’s Lomax Project, multi-grammy winner, Billy Childs’ “Laura NyroRe-Imagined” and with Paul Hillier, KITKA, on BBC TV and Radio, npr, PBS. She is well-known and beloved around the world as a choral composer and arranger – with millions of singers world-wide singing her music, and a Carnegie Hall concert featuring her music coming in 2020. In 2018 she released her latest solo album and choral songbook, ‘Unzip The Horizon’.IMPORTANT
