A study day led by accalimed author Mary Sharratt based around her award winning* novel 'Ecstasy'about Alma Mahler the glamourous but controversial wife of Gustav Mahler, the greatest composer of the early 20th century.Using musical excerpts and readings,the day will explore Alma's and Gustav's relationship, her attempt to write and have performed her own music, the influence on the fast changing musical and cultural life life of Vienna and the legacy for the wider world. There will an opportunity to ask questions and participate in a discussion on two of the most significant figures in early 20th century European culture.
