Reach the Teachers” is an Economics and Personal Financial Literacy (PFL) outreach program sponsored by the Colorado Council for Economic Education (CCEE). These elementary and secondary education professional development (PD) workshops are specifically designed for school districts whose teachers, because of distance, time, and scheduling, are mostly unable to take advantage of CCEE Saturday seminars in Denver and Colorado Springs.
Elementary (K-5), as well as secondary (6-8 and 9-12) workshops will: (1) review and unwrap the K-12 Colorado Academic standards in economics and PFL; (2) help teachers develop pedagogical skills by demonstrating exemplary economic and PFL lessons; (3) provide state-of-the-art lesson resources to participants; and (4) explore strategies of how to integrate PFL and economic reasoning into existing K-8 and high school curricula.
Learning objectives, resources, and activities will focus on several broad concepts. These include, but are not limited to, an introduction to economics and the economy, the fundamental concepts of scarcity, choice and cost, buying goods and services, earning an income, saving, borrowing, investing, and protecting and insuring. The learning objectives of all workshops (activities, lessons, etc.) can be tailored to the needs, desires, and grade level of the requesting school district, school, and/or teachers.
