Event description

Description

Welcome spring and invite nature into your home with the Santa Paula Art Museum's Eco Flower Printing class and the wonders of natural dyes! Using the eco-dye technique, students will work with seasonal flowers and plant-based pigments such as indigo and turmeric to create beautiful prints on natural fabrics. Leave with a new skill and a hand-printed silk scarf and tea towel. This class is for everyone age 12 and over. All skill levels are welcome and all supplies will be provided. The cost of this class is $40.00 per person. Preregistration is required.

PLEASE NOTE: You can also bring something from home to dye too! Think about upcycling those old favorites that need a new life, or check your local thrift stores. Any item that is pre-washed and made from plant fibers only (cotton, linen, bamboo, rayon, etc.) will work. (Tip: your item does not have to be white — lighter shades of all colors will work.)

About Our Teaching Artist: Kathleen Kaller is a teaching artist originally from the East Coast now living with her family in Ventura, California. She is also the Santa Paula Art Museum’s Museum Educator. Kathleen received a Bachelor of Arts from Emerson College in Boston in film and art history. She continued her education and studied painting, textile design, art education and art therapy at Otis College in Los Angeles. Her love for the ocean, color, and hand-made printmaking inspires her creative work and workshops. Kathleen also believes wholeheartedly in the therapeutic power of art. Emphasizing the creative process over the final outcome, she guides her students to expand and trust their intuition.
