8:30-11:30am: Eco-Audits Unpacked: Re-imagine the school building and grounds, not as a container for education, but as a laboratory for engaging problem-based education! EcoRise staff will share their eco-audit curriculum that uses a problem-based learning framework to empower students to design and implement innovative solutions to sustainability challenges on their campus. Available for seven eco-themes - waste, water, energy, food, public spaces, air quality, and transportation - the eco-audit lessons help students develop and apply the scientific process skills that are embedded in every science course, while improving the environmental sustainability of their campus. EcoRise will present best practices for executing a successful eco-audit on your campus, as well as exemplar projects designed by students in Austin ISD and across the nation.

1:00-4:00pm: Design Thinking Workshop: Green your campus through design thinking! In this hands-on, interactive workshop, teachers will work in teams to create effective driving questions and walk through the design process from identifying the problem to ideating to sharing the solution. Learn how to create a student-driven learning experience that will increase student engagement and empower students to effectively tackle sustainability challenges on their campus and in their community. Teachers will walk away with a comprehensive facilitators guide, a support network of environmental educators, and dozens of ready-to-use design thinking strategies and activities. We will also discuss how design thinking can be paired with EcoRise's Eco-Audit Grant program to help your students secure grant funds that will make their sustainability solutions a reality!
