Event description

Description

A new geography of finance is emerging. From Shanghai and Beijing to Frankfurt and Paris, a network of new international financial centers is competing with old financial centres. Some of them are now ready to join a leaner system of finance and what makes these financial hubs really new vis-à-vis London, the global financial city par excellence, is that they have a vast economic hinterland and represent large regulatory jurisdictions. Located mostly on the Eurasia landmass, home to more of 4.5 billion people, China and the European Union have the capacity to grow their role in global finance and move out of the shadow of US leadership in finance. Will they use that opportunity?

Please join us for a discussion on the geography of finance.

Participants

Professor Miriam Campanella, Senior Fellow at ECIPE and author of the The Changing Geography of Finance, a new study by the Robert Triffin International which provides an overview of the structural factors that are shaping the new geography of finance.

Dr. Daniel Gros, Director at CEPS and a leading scholar on the European economy and global finance.
