About this event
You are invited to a live music fundraising event that takes place in pitch-black conditions to bring an immersive atmosphere to the music.
The live performances will be held entirely in the darkness with intervals whereby ambient lights will be switched on for navigational purposes. There will be live performances, soundscapes, choral works and installation pieces. This three dimensional sound experience will feature improvisations as well as pre-composed experimental pieces. Expect a blend of classical and contemporary, songs, soundscapes and choral works.
Feast for the ears, a specially assembled choir formed by Phil Barrett will be performing two improvisational works alongside a renaissance choral piece.
Growling Tongue AKA Mike Sharp will be performing a live improvisation alongside ambient soundscapes on cello, guitar, synthesisers and vocals.
Alex Maydew a pianist and songwriter will be performing his own songs alongside Sean Gibbs a jazz trumpeter.
George Taylor is a singer songwriter who has recently been exploring new stylistic avenues and collaborating with composer Talvin Singh on various projects.
The concert will be in aid of The Amber Trust, a charity that provides musical opportunities for children who have a vision impairment, including those with additional disabilities.
Free entry, however a voluntary donation of £10 for tickets is suggested. All the proceeds of the event will be going to The Amber Trust charity. Doors open at 8.30pm and the music will go on until 10.30pm. There will be intermissions between each performance.
Further Echolocate collaborators are:
Cornelia Byass is a graphic designer who recently graduated from Camberwell College of Art has designed the tickets, flyers and posters for the event.
James Houston is an Architect who will be helping in curating the space in a multi sensory fashion in order to navigate it safely in pitch darkness and provide for fresh perspectives.
Why we are supporting The Amber Trust:
The Amber Trust believes that visual impairment and other disabilities should not prevent children and young people from accessing appropriate musical opportunities.
There are 25,000 children with vision impairment living in the UK, and The Amber Trust aims to support as many children as possible, including those with additional disabilities, to engage with music.
For all the children Amber supports, music has a significant impact. It not only gives them great joy, but it also encourages them to learn, boosts their confidence and helps them to share their thoughts and feelings with others, opening up a world of independence, fulfilment and hope for the future.

Staffordshire St
Staffordshire St is an independent project space in Peckham, South East London. The venue facilitates arts and cultural events and provides affordable studios for artists, makers and designers.
The venue was recently established as an art gallery, before then it was for many years a community centre and originally it was built as a Methodist Hall. Staffordshire St will build on the established record of these histories, opening up again to the neighbourhood and developing a welcoming interdisciplinary arts space.

Accessibility: There is step-free access to the gallery via the door to the left hand side of the main entrance. There is a wheelchair accessible toilet. The event will be taking place in the exhibition space, which will be in darkness.
