DESCRIPTION:

Perhaps never before has it felt so important to focus on women's health. Dr. Margo Maine and Dr. Jennifer L. Gaudiani are teaming up to present a workshop that reviews vital concepts--both medical and psychological--relating to adult women with eating disorders, across the lifespan. Dr. Gaudiani will focus on subjects like bone health, fertility, pregnancy, and metabolism (it's not ruined), citing updated medical literature, epidemiology, and breakthroughs in treatment and outcomes. Dr. Maine will speak from her lifetime of advocacy and expertise on this topic, drawing from her recent book Pursuing Perfection: Eating Disorders, Body Myths, and Women at Midlife and Beyond to share vital insights and therapeutic concepts.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

1) To identify the range and pattern of eating disoders and body image dispair currently seen in adult women

2) To address the unique risk factors and treatment needs of adult women with eating disoders

3) To recognize the complex medical issues assosicated with eating disoders in adult women

MEET OUR PRESENTERS:

Jennifer L. Gaudiani, MD, CEDS, is the Founder and Medical Director of the Gaudiani Clinic. Board Certified in Internal Medicine, she completed her undergraduate degree at Harvard, medical school at Boston University School of Medicine, and her internal medicine residency and chief residency at Yale. From 2008 to 2016, she was one of the leaders of the ACUTE Center for Eating Disorders at Denver Health, the nation’s top medical stabilization center for adults with eating disorders who are too medically compromised to receive care in a mental health setting. She left as its Medical Director to found the Gaudiani Clinic, which provides superb outpatient medical care to patients with eating disorders and disordered eating, of all shapes and sizes. Through a collaborative, communicative, multi-disciplinary approach, the Clinic cares for the whole person, in the context of their values. She has lectured nationally and internationally, is widely published in the scientific literature as well as on blogs, and sits on the board of IAEDP (International Association of Eating Disorder Professionals) as the only internist. Dr. Gaudiani is one of very few outpatient internists in the US who carries the Certified Eating Disorder Specialist designation.


Margo Maine, PhD, FAED, CEDS, is a clinical psychologist who has specialized in eating disorders and related issues for over 30 years. A Founder and Adviser of the National Eating Disorders Association and Founding Fellow of the Academy for Eating Disorders, Dr. Maine is author of: Pursuing Perfection: Eating Disorders, Body Myths, and Women at Midlife and Beyond; Treatment of Eating Disorders: Bridging the Research- Practice Gap; Effective Clinical Practice in the Treatment of Eating Disorders; The Body Myth; Father Hunger; and Body Wars; and senior editor of Eating Disorders: The Journal of Treatment and Prevention. The 2007 recipient of The Lori Irving Award for Excellence in Eating Disorders Awareness and Prevention, and the 2014 recipient of the Don and Melissa Nielsen Lifetime Achievement Award and the 2015 NEDA Lifetime Achievement Award. A member of the Renfrew Foundation Conference Committee, and their Clinical Advisory Board, Maine is a 2016 Honoree of the Connecticut Women’s Hall of Fame. She lectures nationally and internationally on eating disorders and maintains a private practice, Maine & Weinstein Specialty Group, in West Hartford, CT.
