Event description

Description

Eating and Living Mindfully is an 8-Week course that you won't want to miss, to transform your relationship with nourishing yourself. Support healthy eating habits NOW and learn what it is like to tap into the wisdom of your body, the interconnectedness of your mind-body, abandon your limiting beliefs and live by your values.

This course is not a diet or nutrition course. Its purpose is to help you gain insight into your eating (especially conditioned) behaviors and bring mindfulness to the eating process.

Mindfulness is the awareness that arises when we pay attention on purpose in the present moment, while cultivating non-judgement, patience and other certain attitudes. Mindfulness is a skill that can be learned and practiced to enhance our well-being, health, and life itself. When we apply mindfulness to eating specifically and to life in generally, it can have a dramatic effect.

For the past 35+ years, science has uncovered many benefits of practicing mindfulness that include:

  • Increased wellbeing & immune functioning

  • increased cognitive functioning like focusing, concentrating and ability to learn

  • increased emotional regulation and positive states like gratitude, compassion and happiness

  • decreased negative states like depression, anxiety, and agitation

  • decreased reactivity, on a physiological level as well as psychological.

This is the Mindful Eating-Conscious Living(TM) Level 1 Training program developed and taught by Jan Chozen Bays, MD and Char Wilkins, MSW. It is based on the book by Jan Chozen Bays, "Mindful Eating: A Guide to Rediscovering a Healthy and Joyful Relationship with Food." Merry will be teaching the course, and was trained by Jan and Char themselves.

"I am eager to share with you what I know about slowing down to the notice both the big and small stuff, and seeing the world from a different perspective. You'll walk away with an increased awareness of what you really need to nourish your being."

During the 8-weeks, we will

  • learn about mindfulness and apply it to eating.

  • slow down and pause to detect hunger, and participate in relevant exercises.

  • investigate fullness and satisfaction, and participate in relevant exercises.

  • recognize conditioned behavior patterns and limiting beliefs around eating.

  • understand the connection of emotions and body awareness.

  • recognize how mood affects eating.

  • identify cravings and apply mindfulness.

  • recognize heart hunger and alternative ways to satisfy without food.

In class, participants will engage in discussions, meditations, and exercises. Home practices are also greatly suggested, lasting from 15-30 minutes daily to help reinforce the mindful eating skills and practices.

Along with the weekly class, there will be a day of retreat as well, again to build the foundation for mindful eating and reinforce skills learned.

Orientation to this class is also required. The orientation date is noted below.

An application will be sent to those who register, and a follow up phone call will be made as well.
