What Does It Mean to “Eat Like a Local”?
If the travel industry has had one catchphrase over the last few years, it’s “like a local.” Live like a local, act like a local, and of course eat like a local. But how does one actually go about doing that in a meaningful and genuine way, and what does it even mean, anyway?
In the latest in our series of Eater Talks, Eater’s travel editor and two-time James Beard award winner Lesley Suter will be joined by globetrotting panelists Mei Lin (Top Chef season 12 winner and chef at Nightshade), Bill Esparza (Mexican culinary expert and co-founder of gastro-tour company Club Tengo Hambre), and Lucas Peterson (L.A. Times food section columnist, host of Eater’s Dining on a Dime, and former contributor to the NYT’s Frugal Traveler) for a lively conversation about gastronomic tourism in 2019. We’ll discuss the current obsession with seeking out “authentic” experiences as travelers, the pros and cons of venturing off the beaten path, and how to actually get the most out of every meal in your trip.
Ticket price includes one drink ticket.
