Tue, April 25, 2017, 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM HST
Good things happen when we collectively gather to EAT THINK DRINK! Hosted and developed by the Hawaii Agricultural Foundation (HAF), EAT THINK DRINK is a quarterly dynamic, provocative series of discussions on important agricultural issues affecting Hawaii.
We learn, share, and are inspired by the many thoughtful conversations that happen over the dining table. From sparking new approaches to old challenges, finding the middle ground on opposing issues, to taking action in your neighborhood, HAF hopes to engage and empower communities on food, agriculture and change with Eat Think Drink: School Lunch - Hawaii’s Farm to School Initiative.
Rethinking school lunch. What are the challenges and opportunities created by recent policy changes to farm to school agricultural procurement. How do school lunch trays move from frozen, prepared food to fresh, locally sourced ingredients while addressing issues of food safety, consistent supply and capacity of cafeteria staff to prepare fresh food, when labor and training is tight. Our featured keynote speaker is Chef Ann Cooper of Chef Ann Foundation, a chef and leader in the school food movement. Other featured speakers include Lt. Governor Shan Tsutsui, State of Hawaii, JuliAnna Arnett, USDA Farm to School, Greg Christian, Beyond Green Sustainable Food Partners, and Dexter Kishida, State of Hawaii Department of Education Food Service.
Indulge in school lunch inspired dishes created by Randy Bangloy of Eating House 1849 at Kapolei Commons, Matt Young of Hula Grill Waikiki, Keith Pajinag of THE MODERN HONOLULU, and Ronnie Nasuti of Tiki’s Grill & Bar. Sip handcrafted libations provided by Southern Glazer's Wine and Spirits.
The ticket price is $55 per person in advance and $65 at the door - if available. Don't be left behind, get your tickets now!
