Description

EAT, SING, CONNECT!
Friday Evening Shabbat Dinner and Celebration

Shabbat is a day, every week, to celebrate creation. Taking time to focus on nature, we are amazed by its power and beauty.

Most of the time, we are isolated by our culture from creation and its rhythms. We can work, shop, and communicate at any hour of the day or night. We're urged to go far beyond drawing on nature for necessities, and instead to dominate and destroy for the purpose of ever-increasing consumption.

We will come together on a Friday evening to receive the Shabbat gift of stepping away from controlling nature, and instead enjoying and being in awe of what is.

We'll light candles, sing, enjoy wine or juice, challah, a meal, and meaningful conversation. Each person is invited to bring an object, photograph, poem, story, or other example of a way that you appreciate nature, and to share this with the group.

WHO: All are welcome. No experience is necessary, and you don’t need to be Jewish to draw on the universal riches of Jewish tradition! Please consider inviting a friend who might find this gathering meaningful.

HOW: RSVPs accepted through Thursday, January 25. Space is limited. We will contact you about bringing a vegetarian potluck dish to share.

QUESTIONS: Contact Rabbi Bridget Wynne at rabbibridget@jewishgateways.org or 510-410-0662.
