An Introduction to Ego States: Includes case consultation and practice

Using Ego State Therapy with Attachment Issues, Relationships, Sexual Issues, Performance Enhancement, Trauma Recovery, and Working with Dissociative States. Including interventions for calming immune systems, transforming shame, increasing resourcing, and healing personality disorders.

Lecture, Experiential Learning, Video, Case Consultation, and Practice:

  • Distinguish Healthy/Flexible and Dissociative Ego States (and map your own)

  • Overview of Ego State Interventions

  • Identify Vagal States

  • Use Embodied Ego State Interventions (includes practice)

  • Clear Trauma (includes practice)

  • Review the Theory of Structural Dissociation

  • For EMDR practitioners, identify when EMDR is the treatment of choice

  • Tools to work with sexual abuse, and then bring back healthy current sexuality

  • Work with Attachment Issues, including April Steele’s Building a Secure Self (practice)

  • Couples Therapy

  • Calming Over-Active Immune Systems, Multiple-Chemical Sensitivity (possible demo, if someone has one)

  • Pain Protocol

  • Shame (practice)

  • Resourcing (including installing your own “team”)

  • Healing Personality Disorders

  • The Basics of working with Dissociative Identity Disorder

  • Two Hand Interweave technique

Many participants have experienced personal transformation during the practice. Most are using the material as soon as they get back to work.

*18 EMDRIA Credits are available for those who have completed an EMDRIA-approved Basic EMDR training.

About the Instructor:

Robin Shapiro, LICSW, is a gifted teacher and clinician. Robin has used ego state therapy for more than 36 years. She is the editor of EMDR Solutions: Pathways to Healing; EMDR Solutions II; The Trauma Treatment Handbook; and Easy Ego State Interventions. She does psychotherapy in Seattle, gives consultation to clinicians in 4 countries, speaks often at conferences and workshops, and is working on her new book, How to Do Psychotherapy. Her trainings are accessible, transformational, and highly usable.


Schedule: 9 am - 4:30 pm each day. Snacks included.

EARLY BIRD Price: (3-day workshop): $400 (plus admin fee of $30) until January 15, 2019

REGULAR PRICE (3-day workshop): $450 (plus admin fee of $30) after January 15, 2019

Refunds on purchased tickets are available only until February 3, 2019. There is a $50 processing fee for all refunds. *Prices subject to change.


The workshop may be cancelled or postponed 45 days prior to its date due to under-enrollment. Participants may want to wait before making travel arrangements. The workshop shall be cancelled or postponed if unforeseen circumstances, such as presenter illness and/or a natural disaster (a flood, earthquake, tsunami, wildfire, or other major incident) arises. Participants will be refunded 100%
