Islamic Art Revival Series and Irving Arts Center presents an interactive workshop with artist Samia Khan to learn the fine art of Eastern Weaving.
Samia Khan is a multimedia artist and is constantly searching for ways to improve her artistic skills. Born and raised in the Middle East, the sights and sounds heavily influence her art. Khan feels the colors of the Gulf region and strives to express the beauty of the hot sands, the sparkling surf of Ras Tanura, and the blue skies on a perfectly clear day.
Multicultural influences in the community has lead her to different forms of expression-sometimes charcoal, often pottery, collage, or baskets, and at times mono prints and pastel.
Samia Khan was President for an art gallery in Saudi Arabia in ARAMCO (Arab American Oil Company) for 3 years, Vice President for 4 years and Ceramics rep. for 7 years. She taught pottery, ceramics, weaving, basket weaving, Pysanky (5000 year old Ukrainian technique of decorating eggs) and stain glass. She is also skilled in wood carving, glass fusion, handmade paper, print making, photography, Chinese and Arabic calligraphy and jewelry making.
Samia Khan has taken part in many art shows as well as chaired and co-chaired annual art shows. Her art pieces were also selected and sponsored by ARAMCO for exhibition in Singapore in 2006.
