Event description

Description

The 50th Annual Gathering of the Eastern Virginia Association will be held at First United Church of Christ, 1017 Todds Lane, Hampton, Virginia 23666. The theme for the 2019 gathering is “First Expressions.” Matthew 9:14-17.

Registration will begin at 8:15 am. The fee including lunch will be $7.00 for youth and $10.00 for adults. Advance registration is recommended to help assist in determining how many meals to prepare. Registration forms and checks should be mailed to the Eastern Virginia Association, 254 Spirit Circle East, Suffolk, Virginia 23325.

Annual Gathering will start at 8:45am. Please encourage members of your congregations to attend and plan on enjoying the entire day as this is one of the few opportunities when the Association gathers together as a single body. Voting delegates are the Pastor(s) and two lay members of each congregation of 200 or fewer members. Churches with more than 200 members are allowed an additional delegate. All delegates must be certified by their congregations and names submitted along with their registration. All clergy are expected to attend.

We are delighted to welcome the Rev. Dr. Jon Davis as our Keynote Speaker for our Annual Gathering. He is an Episcopal priest and he served as the Canon for Youth Ministry for the Episcopal Diocese of Central Florida. He’s an accomplished musician and worship leader, and youth ministry speaker and trainer. He was a youth pastor at Mount Paran Church of God in Atlanta (a 10,000-member church), and at St Andrew’s by the Sea in Destin, Florida. He has planted and pastored churches and has served as the Executive Director of the Canterbury Retreat and Conference Center in Florida.

He received the Master of Divinity degree from Reformed Theological Seminary and the Master of Arts degree in Anglican Studies from Trinity Episcopal School for Ministry. He completed the Doctor of Philosophy degree in Theology from the Graduate Theological Foundation and completed his doctoral residency at the University of Oxford.

But most excitingly, in May 2018 he left Canterbury to start a new ministry, The Abbey Mission, a Fresh Expression church for changing a culture, primarily for the benefit of those who are not yet part of any church. It’s “church done differently.” He’s a Missions Strategist and Trainer for Fresh Expressions US.

Finally, we are grateful for your support and participation in making our Annual Gathering a success. We thank Rev. Ann Hill and First United Church of Christ for agreeing to host this year’s gathering. We are looking forward to a powerful, spirit-filled meeting as we share together in the awesome work and ministry of the Eastern Virginia Association.
