Event description

Description

The Network for Public Health Law – Eastern Region would like to invite you to join us for a one-day policy briefing on cannabis policy in the Eastern Region. The briefing will begin with a Cannabis 101 overview and continue with expert panel speakers addressing science and policy considerations as they relate to marijuana policy changes. Discussions will include (1) what we know and don’t know about the health impacts of cannabis use, (2) overlaps between cannabis and other substance use policy, including tobacco, (3) an overview of current cannabis policy in Maryland and anticipated changes, (4) and lessons learned from marijuana policy changes in other states from across the country.

Speakers include representatives from the CDC, CDC Foundation, NIDA, ASTHO, Network for Public Health Law, and the Maryland Medical Cannabis Commission.

Attendees include representatives from Eastern Region State's medical and non-medical cannabis commissions, state and local public health professionals, tobacco control professionals, medical professionals, and academic professionals.

The focus of this meeting will be audience interaction with both panel presenters and attendees. There will be ample time for Q&A with all presenters as well as networking breaks, round table discussions and lunch.

Space is very limited for this event.

To make the discussions as productive as possible, we would like to invite a diverse group of attendees. If you would like to have a particular individual or organization in attendance, please contact Mellissa Sager at msager@law.umaryland.edu so an invite may be extended.

Organizer The Network for Public Health Law - Eastern Region

Organizer of Eastern Region Cannabis Policy Briefing

Public health laws are critical because they can dramatically improve the health of a population, and in a relatively short period of time. But knowing how to enforce, implement or change a law is complex and time-consuming and requires specialized expertise. The Network for Public Health Law (Network) provides that assistance, along with resources and training to public health officials, practitioners, advocates and attorneys so that they can make full use of the law as a tool to improve health outcomes. Organizations and individuals committed to improving public health can join the Network at no cost.
