Eastern European Special Interest Group Quarterly Meetings

Facilitated by
Craig Siulinski and Vicky Kolakowski

  February 24, 2018

Come, discuss a new Special Interest Group (SIG) focused on Eastern European Genealogy (official SIG status pending).  We are still refining how the group will meet, where, when, and more. Join us on Feb 24, 2018 and you can help us create this group, together!

In order to get us started on a substantive footing, CGS member Jim Russell will begin the meeting with a presentation on "Habsburg History for Genealogists.

CGS board member Vicky Kolakowski began doing family history research in high school  but became serious about genealogy after her election as a state court judge in 2010, when her mother expressed frustration that so many relatives were passing without leaving behind information about the previous generations, and particularly her immigrant ancestors.

Vicky spends almost all of her free time and vacations researching family history and visiting a variety of repositories and places where her ancestors lived and worked. Because three quarters of her ancestry, and one fourth of her wife Cynthia's ancestry, are Eastern European, she has engaged in extensive study of Eastern European genealogical resources.

Vicky made a presentation for CGS on February 11, 2017 about Eastern European Genealogy, which focused largely on areas that were once part of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth.

Craig Siulinski is a teacher and writer as well as an avid genealogist. He holds a Master of Science degree in Education from Cal State University East Bay, and a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Southern Maine. Craig teaches in K-12 education and is currently a Learning Specialist at Stanbridge Academy in San Mateo. Documenting family stories and researching genealogy have been Craigs passions since 2007. His first blog called August Legacy, was dedicated to his maternal grandfather, Auguste "Gus" Albert. He has led classes and workshops to encourage others to use blogs for sharing their own family histories. In 2014, Craig created Sharing Legacies to help others tell and preserve their family stories for generations to come.
