About this event

Community Forum: Defending the Digital Horizon

Friday, Feb. 4 | Double Tree | Spokane, WA

  • Networking/Breakfast/Panel Discussion: 8-9:30 a.m.
  • Roundtable Breakout Sessions: 9:30 a.m.-10:30 a.m.

About the Community Forum

Increased risks–both domestic and abroad–are placing heavy burdens on businesses and organizations to protect their digital and physical assets from malicious agents. The frequency and complexity of attacks requires a robust technology infrastructure to counter these threats–and anticipate evolving methods that might be deployed. A well-bolstered cybersecurity program requires highly skilled and trained employees to operate it.

In this forum, industry experts, including EWU alumni who are at the forefront of cybersecurity in our region, will discuss workforce demands, infrastructure needs, and what types of skills are required to address emerging threats.

Panel Facilitator:

Stu Steiner, PhD, Assistant Professor of Computer Science & Electrical Engineering, EWU

  • Samantha Agather '18, Incident Response Analyst, TorchLight
  • Kris Bliesner '98, Co-founder of Vega Cloud
  • Dan Wordell, Information Security Officer, City of Spokane
  • Lt. Col. Benjamin Van Meter, U.S. Army IT/cybersecurity officer and EWU Military Science department chair
  • Vernice Keyes '22, EWU cybersecurity student
