This roundtable discussion will look at Norah Smyth's photographs and their use in the East London Federation of the Suffragettes' Woman's Dreadnought newspaper, and discuss suffragette portraiture more widely. Presentations by curator Helen Trompeteler, George Mind and Carla Mitchell of Four Corners. This talk is part of Four Corners' exhibition East End Suffragettes: the photographs of Norah Smyth

George Mind is an AHRC-funded collaborative doctoral award student (National Portrait Gallery/ University of Westminster) researching women’s practice of studio portraiture in Britain between 1888 – 1938.

Carla Mitchell works at Four Corners and is responsible for developing its public programme. She led on the curation of the Norah Smyth exhibition.

Helen Trompeteler is a curator and writer specialising in photography. Her exhibitions include Audrey Hepburn: Portraits of an Icon (2015), Snowdon: A Life in View (2014) and Format Photography Agency (2010).
