Event description

Description

Life is about connections. The connections that we make with a person one day often beget more connections days, months, or years later. This connection started 20 years ago when Andy Fortgang (our wine director and co-owner) met Chris Himmel as classmates in college (you'll have to attend the dinner if you want to hear any good stories). Both Chris and Andy were studying hospitality business and are restaurant industry lifers. Chris now runs Himmel Hospitality group in Boston, Massachusetts which includes recent Wine Spectator Magazine Grand Award winner Grill 23 & Bar (1 of only 89 recipients in the world to receive this honor). This summer a group from their restaurants are "Hitting the Road" visiting farmers, wineries, ranches, fishermen, and restaurants throughout the Pacific NW and Northern California. Along the way they are doing dinners at restaurants throughout the region. For this one we have Chef Tyler Kinnett of Harvest Restaurant in Cambridge coming to cook along with Gabriel in the kitchen. Harvest restaurant has been wowing Cambridge and Boston for over 40 years, and has deep connections in the region focusing on what is local and seasonal.
That's one more connection being made. Another is that we have Brahm Callahan (a master sommelier, which is a big deal for those of you that don't know), the beverage director of the group coming along as well, and picking wines for Tyler's dishes from the Le Pigeon cellar.
When thinking about this dinner we needed a theme and that is where one more very important connection came into play. Chris' childhood friend, Mike Geraty, runs Wulf's Fish, one of the truly outstanding seafood purveyors on the east coast. We thought it would be fun to get some great seafood products in that we don't usually see on this coast.
Connections: Andy and Chris, Tyler and Gabriel, Andy and Brahm, Chris and Mike. East Coast and West Coast. Portland and Boston (remember Portland was almost named Boston). Us and you.... sorry the last one was cheesy.
