About this event

Join Patapsco Heritage Greenway as we remove litter and debris from the East Branch of Herbert Run along Route 1 in Arbutus. This tributary eventually leads to the Patapsco River and needs our help! The Arbutus Volunteer Fire Department has generously offered their lot for our parking and meet-up location. We will send an email 24-48 hours before the event with more details.

To adjust our group stewardship events to the "new normal" we all live in, we are now holding socially distant volunteer mini-events. These events will be capped at 10 volunteers. Please continue reading below for a full outline of our attendance policy, COVID-19 safety guidelines, and electronic waiver.

Attendance Policy:

  1. Every individual who wishes to volunteer MUST register. If your name is not on the registration list at the start of the event, you will not be allowed to participate.
  2. If you are registering multiple people, please make sure to register each individual with their own name.
  3. To cancel your registration and receive a refund, you must let us know 48 hours prior to the start time of the event. This will allow us to open your slot back up to another volunteer.

COVID-19 Safety Rules:

  1. If you are experiencing any of the following symptoms (not attributed to allergies or other medical conditions) 24-48 hours before an event, please refrain from attending: a fever or the need to take fever-reducing medication, difficulty breathing, coughing, pain or pressure in your chest, inability to stay awake, loss of smell and taste.
  2. Volunteers must keep at least a 6 foot distance from all volunteers not in their immediate household.
  3. Masks are required for all volunteers during the event. We understand the need to take breaks and drink water with your mask off, but you will need to do so distanced from the rest of the volunteers. You may be asked to move further away at the discretion of the PHG staff member.
  4. If a volunteer intentionally refuses to listen to mask or distancing directions from a staff member and has to be corrected more than once, they may be asked to leave the event (please remember we are all in this together!)
  5. When arriving for the event, individual supplies (safety vest, trash bags, etc.) will be placed in individual piles distanced from each other. Please make sure to stand where that pile is placed for the introduction and before we continue on with the event.
  6. Please bring your own work gloves, sunscreen, bug spray, and any tools you may want to use. We will have a communal stock of extra gloves and tools to use at your own risk (communal tools and gloves will be sanitized and washed between every event). We will provide hand sanitizer.
  7. If you begin to feel COVID-19 symptoms during an event, we respectfully ask that you immediately leave.
  8. If you are diagnosed with COVID-19 within 10 days of attending an event, we ask that you alert us so that we may update the other volunteers (your identity will be kept confidential).

Electronic Waiver:

Please read the attached electronic waiver found here. You will be asked to "electronically sign" the waiver when registering.
