Like Earthwise Productions founder Mark Weiss, Elvin Bishop has roots on the South Side of Chicago. Elvin was a student briefly at University of Chicago, but would cut class to go hang out on the corner with the kitchen staff at the student cafeteria and eventually jam with them. Meanwhile, around that time the Weiss family had an older (than Mark) acquaintance who would stay with them for days at a time and help out at sundry quotidian matters, but would describe a large extended family in Mississippi and Chicago. Weiss recalls passing by Buckingham fountain at night, the names of his older friends, E__ or L__ -- sisters -- coincidentallly the first two letters of "Elvin" --the other was familiar to Weiss's maternal grandparents. In the years 1964 thru 1968 howver, Mark was somehow oblivious to the blues or Elvin's work. Years later, Weiss met Elvin on tour with Weiss's then-client the pianist Henry Butler. (He has not resumed his friendships with E__or L___, regretably).
This event is also:

Special thanks to Mitch Woods and Maria Muldaur for supporting Elvin Bishop at The Mitch.
