Event description
Let's rebuild, restore and reconnect with the planet and our roots.

About this Event

Join The Alliance Center and celebrate the 51st anniversary of Earth Day on Thursday, April 22! We’ll come together virtually with changemakers from across the Colorado and beyond to recognize our sustainability victories from the last year and explore opportunities to restore our planet and our relationship with it.

You’ll hear an inspiring conversation between Nicole Jackson, an environmental justice activist and educator and Next Generation Advisory Council Member at National Parks Conservation Association, and Bianca Acosta, Community Outreach Manager at GrowHaus in Denver. They will discuss how reconnecting, rebuilding and rediscovering our connection with nature can be cathartic and restorative to both the planet and ourselves. These two incredible leaders will share personal experiences of how nature has served as a tool in healing individuals, communities and disenfranchised populations. Nicole and Bianca will empower attendees to be allies for those who have been excluded and removed from nature and/or their native lands and support them as they rebuilt their relationship to the earth.

About the Speakers

Bianca Acosta

Bianca Acosta was born in Mexico and has lived in Colorado for the last 15 years. She is very proud of her indigenous roots, her cultura and having the opportunity to serve her community.

Bianca has been in the education field for the last 6 years, proudly serving her Latinx community and advocating for English learners. She decided to switch gears in her career to focus on learning about permaculture, organic farming and advocate for equity on food access and food education. She is thrilled to be joining the GrowHaus team, share her passions and continue to be in service for her comunidad and grow alongside them.

Nicole Jackson

Nicole Jackson has always had a strong bond with nature and its beauty since she was a young girl. As an early professional her work involved connecting underrepresented communities and youth to resources and opportunities to provide them equitable access to green space. Last year, Nicole along with a small group of Black STEM professionals and students co-organized Black Birders Week in response to the Central Park bird watching incident and police brutality against Black Americans.

Nicole earned her Bachelor of Science degree from The Ohio State University and has worked in different capacities as an environmental educator, facilitator and freelance consultant for various non-profit organizations across Ohio.
