Description

Join Joyce as she travels through time from the earliest days of settlement of Maryland in the seventeenth century up through the nineteenth-century in a discussion covering the more popular spirited drinks early Marylanders enjoyed. This talk focuses on drinks such as cider, perry, beer, Sampson, whiskey, brandy, punch, toddy, shrub, and bounce, among other curious historic spirited drinks.

Joyce White is a foodways historian offering food history with tastings on a variety of topics. Joyce is also the foodways consultant to the ca.1801 Riversdale House Museum in Riverdale Park, MD, was the consultant for the restoration of the 18th century kitchen at Annapolis’s William Paca House, and was the guest curator for the Maryland State Exhibit for the Southern Food & Beverage Museum in New Orleans, LA.
