Overview

NWKE Presents Anne Mileski: Early Improvisation & Sequencing Singing Games with Self-Determination Theory in Mind

Friday evening's workshop (6:30-9:30pm) will focus on early improvisation in the elementary music room and exploring different ways to incorporate group and individual choice and improvisation practices for students to showcase their creativity and demonstrate musical fluency prior to notational literacy.

Saturday's workshop (9am-3pm) will focus on sequencing singing games with self-determination theory in mind. Participants will consider how to effectively sequence singing games to encourage student participation, cooperative learning, and independent musicianship. Drawing on Self Determination Theory, we will explore ways to encourage students' competence, relatedness, and autonomy, fostering students' musical agency and boosting engagement. We will consider strategies for adapting and scaffolding singing games and activities to meet the needs of every learner.

Join us for a light salad & sandwich luncheon on Saturday. We will hold a brief NWKE membership meeting from 12:30 - 1:00 PM. (in-person & on Zoom)

8 clock hours available through WMEA.
