Event description

Description

The annual Postgraduate and Early Career Symposium is an interdisciplinary event that seeks to equip postgraduate students and early career researchers who work in the field of early drama with the professional skills necessary to succeed as researchers and teachers in academia and within the wider employment context. The symposium calls on scholars and individuals who have successfully researched, produced, and taught early drama to share their knowledge with the delegates. The sessions range from practice-as-research seminars, grant funding workshops, advice on research outputs, pedagogical approaches to early drama, as well as exploring dramatic records in the archive. The symposium is held on the day before the annual Medieval English Theatre Society meeting which provides an opportunity for further networking between postgraduates and early career researchers with established scholars.

Session topics will include, for example, practice-based research, understanding dramatic context, and a workshop on palaeography and dramatic records. Scholars, researchers, and professionals who have successfully researched, produced, and taught early drama will lead the sessions. The symposium will conclude with an open space session that will allow participants to continue to discuss the day’s topics and the future of the field.

Confirmed speakers:
Sarah Carpenter (University of Edinburgh), Matthew Cheung-Salisbury (University of Oxford), Helen Gittos (University of Oxford), David Griffith (University of Birmingham). There will be a screening of "The South African Mysteries" and a discussion led by director Mark Dornford-May.
