Event description

Description

Oregon is experiencing an early childhood crisis. Not enough young children get the early care and education they need during the most critical period of brain development, prenatal to 5 years old. What happens in early childhood literally shapes young children’s brains and sets the foundation for all future learning and life experiences.

We know high-quality early care and education work, but young children who experience barriers to opportunity due to poverty, race/ethnicity, disability, language, or geographic location don’t have equal access to these proven programs and services. Today, 47 percent of all children birth to 5 years old in Oregon live in low-income households. We need to invest in our young children now; there’s no time to waste.

On April 9, early childhood advocates from across Oregon are gathering in Salem to make sure our lawmakers know: Early Childhood Matters! During the 2019 legislative session, policy makers must prioritize young children and their families in budget and policy decisions. When we invest in young children and their families, whole communities thrive.

Please join us for Lobby Day. Let your state representatives know why early childhood matters to you.

Attendees of Lobby Day will be scheduled for conversations with their state representatives. Advocacy training will be provided in advance of the meetings and lunch will be provided in our assigned meeting rooms at the Capitol.
