Event description

Description

Join child advocates from across Colorado at the Early Childhood Advocacy Training presented by Child Care Works, the Prenatal, Infant, Toddler Coalition, Early Childhood Council Leadership Alliance, Clayton Early Learning, and the Colorado Children's Campaign.

The Early Childhood Advocacy Training will help build your understanding and skills to advance policies that impact expecting families, pregnant people, infants, and toddlers. Topics covered at the training will include advocacy versus lobbying, the legislative process, a recap of the 2018 election and its impacts, tips for engaging elected officials, effective storytelling, and action planning for the 2019 legislative session.

Thanks to funding from Think Babies, the Early Childhood Advocacy Training is free of charge, with financial support available to cover mileage, parking, and lodging for those traveling from outside the Denver-Boulder metro area. Please register by Friday, November 23 to secure a hotel room; we will make the reservation on your behalf.

ZERO TO THREE created the Think Babies™ campaign to make the potential of every baby a national priority. Funding partners for Think Babies include the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, which supports the campaign’s public education aspects, and the Perigee Fund, which supports the campaign’s public education and advocacy aspects. Is this training the same as Speak Up for Kids?

The December 10 Early Childhood Advocacy Training is distinct from yet complementary to the annual Speak Up for Kids Day at the Capitol hosted by Children's Hospital Colorado, Clayton Early Learning, and Colorado Children's Campaign. The Early Childhood Advocacy Training will provide a stronger foundation in advocacy skills than we have time to provide at Speak Up and will not delve as deeply into the specific policy issues to be considered at the Capitol during the 2019 legislative session. In addition, the December 10 Early Childhood Advocacy Training does not include a trip to the Capitol nor visits with your elected officials. If you've never attended Speak Up for Kids, this is a great opportunity to familiarize yourself with the policymaking process and effective advocacy. If you have participated in Speak Up for Kids, this is a great opportunity to deepen your understanding of the policymaking process and effective advocacy.
