EARLY ADOPTERS FOOTPRINT ROUND TABLE

Paget Room, BMA House, Tavistock Square, London WC1H 9JP – 11th July 2011 12.30

The sustainable use of resources is being embedded with Governments’ policies across the UK.  This is demonstrated in the Review of Waste Policies for England published on 14th June, which makes a commitment to the development of a voluntary agreement for the hospitality and foodservice sector on packaging and food waste.

As in other industries, on a range of issues, that announcement comes with targets and a clear mandate for the organisations responsible for overseeing the delivery of those targets.  One such organisation, WRAP, has also published its new business plan, with a stated focus on hospitality and foodservice and is currently scoping the possible content of a voluntary agreement on behalf of all UK Governments.  Many of us already working to reduce waste and packaging will welcome this support.  We will be eager to demonstrate our existing achievements and how that may contribute to the development of a voluntary agreement.

Voluntary agreements can bring both commercial and environmental benefits through the whole supply chain as demonstrated by the successful Courtauld Agreement in Grocery Retail which has delivered significant reductions in packaging and food waste.

Footprint Round Table

The biggest challenge for hospitality and foodservice is facilitating collaboration across the supply chain to achieve reductions.  Foodservice Footprint, with a track record of assembling the supply chain, aim to meet the challenge with the initial Round Table on the 11th July to be held at the British Medical Association BMA House Tavistock Square London WC1H 9JP.

This is an early, unique opportunity to join a specially selected group of Early Adopters and learn from WRAP’s experience and be able to give voice to what our industry needs in order to achieve targets in a way that brings environmental and commercial benefit.

Objectives

A select group of 30 executives from across the foodservice supply chain will work in discussion groups on a series of exercises designed to encourage collaboration and identify paths to waste and packaging reduction.  There will be the opportunity to give live feedback at the event. Culmination of the process will be a full report written of discussions held and net steps agreed.
