Event description

Description

"A disaster is a serious disruption of the functioning of a community or a society involving widespread human, material, economic or environmental losses and impacts, which exceeds the ability of the affected community or society to cope using its own resources."

In California, when we think disaster, we immediately think earthquake. But the reality is that we are subject to wind storms, floods, wild fires, an aging infrastructure (such has water mains, gas lines, and high voltage power lines), and excessive heat that can go for days or weeks at a time.

The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training is offered free by the fire department to teach community members how to be prepared for a disaster and to be able to take care of themselves and their families when normal resources are not available and give them the basic knowledge needed to safely become the first responders in their own neighborhoods during times when professional responders are not available.

This neighborhood meeting is open to everyone regardless of if you are CERT trained or not.

It will be run by the Eagle Rock Neighborhood and Glassell Park Neighborhood Team Leaders and the CERT Battalion 2 Coordinators.

This meeting will focus on the basic development of the neighborhood plan:

  • Where do trained community members go after an earthquake or other disaster to meet up with other trained members and begin forming response teams.
  • How do we communicate using FRS, ham, and goTenna radios radios to communicate between volunteers and between staging areas.
