Description

Crew Leaders: Susan McDonnell & Susan Tracy

Project Overview: Come join us for an overnight trail crew working on the closed Eagle Creek trail!

This will be a self-supported backcountry trail crew. Participants will provide their own food and camping gear. A water filtration system will be provided, or you can bring your own. Backpacking experience required.

On Day 1, we'll backpack in about 7 miles, stopping to do some trail work on the way.
On Days 2 and 3, we'll work a full day, hiking up to 7 miles RT each day.
On Day 4, we'll pack up camp, do a little trail work, and then hike back out to the trailhead.

Elevation change is approx. 3000'. It's steady, but not steep.

Work may include clearing rock, brush, downed branches, and small trees, and repairing tread. Work area will include steep cliffs and uneven footing.

What You Need: Long pants, long sleeved shirt, and sturdy over-the-ankle hiking boots are required in the closed burn area. Backpacking gear needed includes backpack, tent, sleeping bag & pad, stove & cook kit, water bottles, personal items, extra clothes, rain gear, and food for four days and three nights. You will also need a day pack to take with you for trail work, or you can convert your backpack into a day pack. We'll provide hard hats, gloves, and tools, but if you have your own, feel free to bring them. Most of our tools will already be at our work site, but we may need to carry a few smaller tools in with us.

FAQs

What do I need for overnight trips?

You need to have some backcountry camping experience to make your trip enjoyable and safe. You need to provide your own tent, sleeping bag, and mess kit for meals, as well as any other equipment to help make yourself comfortable in camp. Some of our crews are supported by a camp tender and meals will be provided, while others are self-supported and you will need to bring all your own food and cooking gear. This will be noted in the project signup. Please see Volunteer Trail Crew Guidebook – Overnight and Extended Projects for more information.
