Description

Students who have dyslexia and or other common specific learning disabilities while attending publicly funded schools may qualify for:

a) unique, specialized education services under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).
b) Section 504 (of the Rehabilitation Act) services to ensure there is no disability related discrimination in public school settings.

Training objectives:
- Those attending will obtain an understanding of typical learning disabilities and how they may affect educational success in school
- Attendees will understand how I.D.E.A. and Section 504 differ in terms of defining learning disabilities as well as the similarities and differences for services available to students under the two laws
- Attendees will receive recommendations for strategies, services and placement for students with learning disabilities in school to foster success


Target Audience:
This training is for parents of children with disabilities in public schools as well as professionals serving these families.
