FAQs

How does a virtual race work? In a virtual race, you can participate anywhere, at any time, and with anyone. You register for the race on our website, time yourself as you complete your distance, and then upload your results. A virtual race gives you the flexibility to participate, get in shape, and support the Dysautonomia Support Network in a way that works best for you and your abilities. You can run, roll, or walk all or part of your distance at an event in your area or you can complete your distance in your own neighborhood, or even on a treadmill. A virtual race allows you to split your distance into multiple segments and go your own pace. Join a team in your area and walk together with your fellow Dysautonomia Support Network Chapter Members. It's a great way to meet new friends. Do I have to run the 5k all at one time? No. A virtual race allows you to split your distance into multiple segments and go your own pace. Do I have to run all of the 5k? No. The most important thing is that you participate in any capacity that you are able. If that means walking around your local park with your friends for 30 minutes vs. running an entire 5k, that is okay! We would love for you to take part in a way that equals your ability and wellness level. Watch this video to learn more

Who is Dysautonomia Support Network? DSN is a U.S. based 501 (c) (3), non-profit organization providing support, resources, education, and advocacy for patients affected by the many forms of Dysautonomia and related conditions such as Connective Tissue Disorders, Mast Cell Activation Disorders, Chiari Malformation and Gastric Motility Disorders globally.

What is the purpose of Dysautonomia Support Network? By supporting patients and working with other non-profit organizations, we aspire to increase the scientific understanding of the relationship between dysautonomia, autoimmune disorders, connective tissue disorders and Mast Cell Activation Disorder in the hope of finding new treatment options for patients with these clusters of conditions. We increase confidence and independence in our members by supplying them the tools, support, education and resources they need to adapt to life with chronic illnesses while challenging themselves to set new goals despite their physical limitations. Toward this end, we provide scholarships for education and for service dogs to enable our members to actualize their dreams. We strive to improve the quality of life of patients worldwide: increasing understanding, awareness and access to appropriate medical care for all patients. We hope to dispel the misunderstanding and prejudice that many medically complex patients face in medical settings and in society as a whole.

Some patients develop dysautonomia secondary to other conditions such as Multiple Sclerosis, Chiari Malformation, Parkinson's, Diabetes, Autonomic Neuropathy, Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, Celiac Disease, Sjögren’s Syndrome, Mitochondrial Disorders, and Mast Cell Activation Disorders.Others develop it after trauma, surgery or infection. Learn more at www.DysautonomiaSupport.org
