COME JOIN THE LA LONE SCOUTS ON THEIR DYNAMIC SKILLS WEEKENDER IN NORTHERN CALIFORNIA to 

Commemorate the 150th Anniversary of the Transcontinental Railroad

2019 marks the sesquicentennial of one of the most pivotal events and achievements in the history of the United States, the completion of the Transcontinental Railroad. Join us to commemorate this monumental occasion with events, activities, exhibits, and more throughout April, May & June.

with their First Stop in Sacramento on Saturday May 18, and their Second Stop in San Carlos on Sunday May 19.

DAY One: Saturday May 18 in Sacramento

(a) SACRAMENTO HISTORIC TRAIL  

This is a one-day 5 mile urban hike to remember and experience the California Gold Rush in Sacramento on Saturday May 18:

Requirements:

  1. Hike the trail as shown on the map in the Trail guide from Sutter's Fort to Old Sacemanto and return (about 5 miles).
  2. Visit the State Capital (admission is free) and the State Railroad Museum (admission is charged).
  3. A visit to Sutter's Fort is recommended. Admission is charged

(b) HISTORIC CALIFORNIA RAIL ROAD TRAIL 

Requirements:

  1. Take light rail using the Blue line (Watt 1-80 - Cosumnes River College), the Gold line (Folsom) or the Green line (Richards/Township 9) to downtown. Bring your ticket stubs to check in.
  2. Visit the California State Railroad Museum (admission required).


(C) RAILROADING MERIT BADGE 

Requirements:

Req #8b: Rail-fanning

  • Visit a railroad museum, historical display, or a prototype railroad-sponsored public event. With permission, photograph, videotape, or sketch items of interest. Explain what you saw and describe your photos, sketches, or videotape.
  • Purchase tickets and ride a scenic or historic railroad. Under supervision, photograph the equipment and discuss with your counselor the historic significance of the operation.

FOR WHOM: 

Scouts BSA from any troop or council can join in the Dynamic Skills Weekender for Saturday or Sunday or both days, regardless of gender or rank.

HOW TO RSVP:

1) Sign Up Scout using Scout Name with Scout Parent’s Email Address.

2) Sign Up ONE SCOUT at ONE TIME.

3) DO NOT INCLUDE ADULTS ON EVENTBRITE...

NOTES - PLEASE READ CAREFULLY:

1) Travel from wherever you are and the California State Rail Road Museum In Old Town Sacramento is your responsibility.  

2) Price Listed is for (a) admission to California State Railroad Museum for Scouts, (b) admission to Sacramento History Museum for Scouts, (c) Award Patches + Shipping Fees, and (d) Youth Daily Pass for Sacramento Light Rail.

3) Scouts are to arrive in Class A uniform - this is an URBAN 5-8 MILE hike - and bring their (a) Blue Card, (b) Merit Badge Worksheet at http://usscouts.org/usscouts/mb/worksheets/Railroading.pdf and (c) their Eventbrite ticket with the following information listed /written legibly with a blue or black pen:

  • Scout Troop Number
  • Scout Council
  • Scout Mailing Address

3) Adults/Parents can purchase their own Admission tickets as needed at each stop in Sacramento.

LA Lone Scouts Mandarin Social Adventurers

LA Lone Scouts are registered directly with the Western Los Angeles County Council (WLACC) of the Boy Scouts of America. LA Lone Scouts consists of one Lone Scout Counselor (similar to Scoutmaster) and 3-5 Lone Scouts (youth 12-17 years old).

Mandarin Social Adventurers is a Parent-run club for families with children from 6-18 years old who enjoy going to places regardless of school choice (traditional, public, private, charter, Homeschool, etc.). Our adventures are (1) FUN and (2) related to one or more of the following disciplines: Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, Music, and Mandarin!
