Event description

Dykes with Drills is back to offer an Introduction to Tools Workshop at the Rebuilding Exchange this Fall!

In these workshops you will learn tool use and safety, team building and have fun doing it!

You will be trained to use a variety of shop tools and equipment to begin your woodworking adventure. Following your hands on training, you will form small groups, where you will collaborate to take a design from conceptualization to completion as you find solutions to everyday problems using reclaimed materials. Below are more details about the Fall Dykes with Drills Introduction to Tools.

Who we are:

We call ourselves Dykes With Drills. By using the word “dyke”, we reclaim it from its history of oppression and exclusion. By using drills and other tools, we build communities of diversity and inclusion. Our community of builders includes people of all sexualities and genders, including those who are non-conforming, transgender, and allies.

We create equity for women, transgender, and gender non-conforming folx in the trades and construction industry. By hosting tools workshops, volunteer events, job referrals and meet-ups, we cultivate opportunities for individuals to connect with each other and to use power tools. In everything we do, we foster safe, inclusive, non-judgmental spaces for learning and teaching.

Dykes with Drills workshops are committed to 4 goals:

1. Giving people independence and confidence when using power tools

2. Creating communities of people through project based collaboration

3. Learning from our mistakes

4. Accessibility both financially & physically; no one turned away for lack of funds
