Come join the FreeWalkers on our first Christmas walk through the Brooklyn neighborhood of Dyker Heights, famous for its wonderful kitschy Christmas lights displays that are dazzling, over-the-tops and even animated figures that represent the holiday season.
Because of the location, we will have a mid-town meeting place where you can choose to meet up with others and ride the subway to the starting point. Here is our planned rendezvous:
Meeting Place #1 - Herald Square - (mid-town subway ride)
We will meet at 3:30pm at Herald Square in front of The Gap at W 34 St & 6th Ave, from there at 3:50 pm we will head down to the 34th Street subway station and catch the D train towards Coney Island and get off at the 79 Street Stop in Brooklyn, we will exit near intersection of 79th St and New Utrecht Ave and walk to the main meeting place before we roam Dyker Heights.
Meeting Place #2 - Mona Lisa Bakery - (7717 13th Ave, Brooklyn, NY)
Then at 5:30pm we will wander into the Dyker Heights neighborhood and systemically check out the amazing holiday lights displays from 82nd to 86th Street, between 10th and 13th Avenues. Note that 13th Avenue, in this neighborhood, is also called Dyker Heights Blvd. We expect to finish our walking tour at about 8:00 p.m.
After you can join the group taking the D train back to Herald Square to end the tour or we have the option to length the walk by staying on the D and stopping at Rockefeller Center and walking to view the Christmas tree and then visiting St. Patrick’s Cathedral (allow additional 1.5 hrs)
****Note: the Manhattan-bound N subway trains will not stop at 86 St, Avenue U, Kings Hwy, 20 Av, 18 Av, New Utrecht Av, and Fort Hamilton Pkwy until Spring 2017
