Dye Days of Summer

Saturday, July 21 and Sunday, July 22 - 10am-4pm (both days)

$150 WGGC members / $175 non-members, plus $15 materials fee

No experience needed

Workshop limit: 15 (minimum 5)

Experience what the natural world around us supplies us in the way of color. Join Judy for two days of dyeing using various techniques and the abundance of the local nature scene. This workshop will be held at Judy's home to take advantage of the woods, plants, empty garage, convenient dyeing set up, and the absence of her husband for the weekend! Dye techniques will include two methods of eco/contact dyeing, rusting, pot dyeing, and a bit of mud painting. Registrants are also welcome to soak in the hot tub after class.

$15 materials fee includes: table rental, steel wool, baggies, purchased botanicals, string/cord, dowels, tannin, iron, handouts, plastic wrap, name tag materials, heat source, soy milk, etc.

Students supply:

  • White, natural, or light-colored cloth/clothing to dye made of any and all natural materials and washed well to remove any surface treatment. No sofener used in wash or dry. Materials can be new or used, woven or knit.
  • Heavy (90lb or heavier) art papers
  • Scissors
  • Nut pick or ice pick
  • At least two dozen plastic grocery bags
  • Cookie sheet or aluminum pan with sides
  • Any rusty items with which to imprint
  • Any botanicals you would like to use and/or contribute to the group, ie. blueberries, onion skins, avocado skins and pits, tree leaves, coreopsis, Queen Anne's lace, geranium, walnut. If it has color and/or you want to try it, bring it along.
  • Lunch and beverages

Weavers Guild of Cincinnati Cancellation Policies Regarding Student Fees:

  • If the teacher or Guild cancels workshop – full refund to all registered and cancelled students. Generally, the teacher or the Guild may cancel the workshop three (3) three or more weeks before the workshop start date. This is stipulated in the instructor's contract but can be flexible if both parties agree.
  • If a registered student wishes to cancel, s/he must:
    • Contact the Workshop Chair
    • If canceling thirty (30) or more days before workshop start date, student receives a refund of the workshop fee minus a $50 cancellation fee.
    • Cancel twenty-nine (29) or fewer days before the workshop start date
      • Refund workshop fee minus $50 cancellation fee only if vacant spot is filled by another person (from waitlist or otherwise).
      • No refund if spot remains vacant.
  • Registered student may independently find someone to take his/her place at the workshop with no extra fees involved as long as no cancellation is performed through EventBrite. Workshop Chair MUST be notified. In this situation, the primary registered student is responsible for all fees, passing on information to their replacement, etc.

Please note: Participants will be need to be WGGC members for 2018-2019 in order to take part in this workshop at the members rate.
