Event description

Description

Did you know your walk is unique to you? Forget your fingerprint or your face, your walk can be tracked from hundreds of yards away. Want to practice silly walking exercises so you can go incognito on any sidewalk?

Come step into the year 2022 for a workout that makes SoulCycle seem trivial. After we've lived in this absurd future for a bit we'll discuss it and I'll give you tips on how you can stage your own Participatory Satire.

11AM - NOON - GAIT AUGMENTATION SEMINAR

  • Arrive on time and we’ll get you checked in and transported to 2022.
  • Your gait will be analyzed, you’ll practice peculiar walking exercises, and even make your own personal augmentation wearables to take home!
  • It's all part of my Mind over Matter — Matter over Mind approach to going incognito on your terms.

Wardrobe Guidance

  • For best results, wear something you are comfortable walking around in for 90 minutes.
  • Style tip: shiny things confuse algorithms. So wear your sequins or lamé. No sweat if this isn’t in your wardrobe, I’ll have you covered.

NOON - 1:00PM - DISCUSSION + TIPS

  • After the workout, we’ll cool down with a discussion of the Participatory Satire we just experienced.
  • How did it make us feel? What did it make us think about or question? What made us comfortable or uncomfortable?
  • Then, I’ll share an overview of the Participatory Satire tactic, examples, and best practices.
  • We will get hands-on with a quick exercise so you can start to imagine a Participatory Satire you might stage.
  • Don’t delay, get outraged by something today!

IS THIS FOR REAL?

After decades of research, gait identification technologies are edging closer, becoming more affordable, and finding surprisingly unchecked success in the commercial sector. In the future, we may need to disguise the way we walk to protect our privacy. Let's talk about it!

WHY PARTICIPATORY SATIRE?

Participatory Satire is a humorous tactic for collaborative speculation. It invites people to play in current realities or potential futures taken TOO FAR by technological or scientific advancements, or even issues brought on by policy shifts.

Applying humor to uncomfortable topics disarms us. It lets us confront our deeply held views, upend our doom and gloom reactions, and lessen numbness to discussing topics like privacy, climate change, or even our relationships with our phones.
