DWP 2017: Crafting with Heavy Timber
Wed, April 26, 2017, 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM PDT
Timber framing: big timbers, mortise and tenon joinery, wooden pegs, chisels, the iconic wooden beetle mallet - a traditional, time-tested craft that offers a plethora of design possibilities. Be there to watch our team join a modern timber structure with the latest solar panel offerings to create a solar canopy.
While steeped in tradition, timber framing is a highly versatile construction method in which modern technology plays a large role. Our timber frame craftsmen, timber engineers, and designers share their knowledge along with a local solar energy solutions company. These makers will venture from McMinnville to hand-craft timbers, live at the event. The structure will use dense grain, old growth Douglas fir salvaged from Centennial Mills - some of the best fiber we've ever seen.
Our event will culminate with a complete timber frame structure topped with solar panels that we will donate to one of our local community organizations.
Note: All 'ticket fees' will be collected as donations for a local community organization.
