About this Event

Presented by: Nicole Morella

Domestic violence has a traumatic, cumulative and chronic impact on the health and well-being of survivors, families and communities. The costs associated with intimate partner violence exceeds $8.3 billion each year, $5.8 billion of which is for direct medical costs. Domestic violence is the most common cause of injury for women ages 18 to 44, and leads to an increased risk for chronic diseases including heart disease, stroke and asthma. This workshop will discuss the link between domestic violence and an individual’s health and well-being, and the role the healthcare community can play in preventing and responding to domestic violence. Participants will also learn ways to integrate domestic violence education and interventions in various health care settings including public and private healthcare settings, as well as in specialized areas such as emergency, pediatrics, obstetrics, and mental and behavioral health.
