Duke Ellington Mural Re-dedication Ceremony
Event Information
Description
The Duke Ellington Mural on the True Reformer building has become an iconic feature of the U Street cityscape. The mural was removed in 2012 due to structural issues with the building but was restored to its full glory on May 3rd of this year. On July 22nd, we'll partner with DC Murals, Spectacle and Story to host an official rededication in the True Reformer auditorium.
The program will include a panel discussion featuring: Jazz Historian Sandra Butler-Truesdale, DC Historian Blair Ruble, and the creator of the Ellington Mural, G. Byron Peck. The panel will be moderated by Shellee Haynesworth, creator of the Black Broadway on U project.
The panel will be followed by a live jazz performance. Light refreshments will be served.
This program is FREE and open to the public.
