Event description

Description

A Learning Retreat: A chance to use and improve your Irish on a weekend immersion in cultural, spiritual and practical activities through our native tongue. Your three hosts will run workshops on poetry writing, a singing circle, physical exercise with non contact hurling, wild food foraging, plant identification and more. The day will begin with yoga and meditation, continue with healthy (organic where possible) food with your choice of workshops, energetic or calm, and will end around the campfire sharing music, poetry or your daily observations.

Awaken your heritage, regain your confidence and learn new skills in nature. Suited to those with some proficiency in Irish (Leaving Cert level). Bring your foclóir, yoga mat, swimming togs, shawl or an instrument for the campfire.

The Great Blasket Island is a special area of conservation for its population of grey seals, which can number up to 1,000, and seabirds including puffin, manx shearwater and the artic tern among them. The island was deserted in the fifties and left to the wildlife. Its former inhabitants - Peig Sayers among them - were said to have the purest and most poetic form of Irish in the country.
