Description

Join us for Dudek's culminating presentation after a year-long investigation into Los Angeles' urban forest management systems.

City Plants received a grant from Cal Fire and the U.S. Forest Service to conduct an assessment of the City of Los Angeles’ programs, funding, and policies related to urban forestry. The goal was to determine how many elements of an Urban Forest Management Plan already exist and what elements still need to be completed. The consultant, Dudek, worked with a formal Working Group of partners on this project to ensure broad-based, collaborative support across government, non-profit, and community sectors.

Over the course of one year, Dudek's scope of work included the following tasks:

Task 1: Audit of Urban Forestry Policies, Reports, and Efforts

Task 2: Examine the Structure of Governance for Trees & Current Citywide Tree Inventory Components

Task 3: Write Components to Prepare for Completion of the Urban Forest Management Plan

The UFMP Working Group met once a month in 2018 and included the following partners:

Office of Mayor Eric Garcetti, the Office of Councilmember Joe Buscaino, the Office of Councilmember Mitch O'Farrell, the Office of Councilmember Paul Koretz, the Office of Councilmember Mike Bonin, the Office of Councilmember Jose Huizar, Department of Recreation and Parks, Bureau of Street Services - Urban Forestry Division, Bureau of Sanitation, Bureau of Engineering - Sidewalk Divison, Los Angeles Department of Water and Power, City Plants, Climate Resolve, Community Forest Advisory Committee, Department of City Planning, Department of Building and Safety, Koreatown Youth and Community Center, Los Angeles Conservation Corps, Los Angeles Beautification Team, A Cleaner Greener East Los Angeles, Grown in Los Angeles, Natural History Museum, Tree People, U.S. Forest Service, Cal Fire, North East Trees, Theodore Payne Society, and the Neighborhood Council Sustainability Alliance - Trees Committee
