The Dublin Smartphone Film Festival is now in its 6th year. Ireland’s only International Film Festival dedicated to filmmakers exclusively using mobile devices (Phones & Tablets) is taking place on June 3rd-DubSmartFF has the usual we bring you the most exciting films from around the world.

This year we are proud to be screening a copy of Everybody's Oma

Equal parts heart-warming and heart-breaking, Veteran Dublin Smartphone Film Festival Director Jason Van Genderen's intimate Australian documentary Everybody's Oma is the little film that could and could well be the most heart warming film of the year.

A short film maker who found his life changed forever when he decided to turn his attention away from his own business and focus on looking after his mother Hendrika as she battles the debilitating effects of dementia, Jason, his family and particularly his kind-hearted mother found worldwide fame during the Covid-19 pandemic of 2020 as Jason's social media documentation of the trials and tribulations of his mothers battle found their way in front of peoples eyes from across the globe.

Hoping to both spread joy in the world that at the time was scarily bereft of it and also shine a light on dementia in a warts and all fashion, Jason, no doubt had little idea just where his and his mothers journey would take them but thankfully for all of us he was able to end up with the finished product that is Everybody's Oma, a universal love letter to family, love and making the most of every moment one can get in a life that can be gone before we know it.

About the Trainer

Hi everyone, i am Robert Fitzhugh and i am the Festival Director and Head Trainer for the Dublin Smartphone Film Festival

The Dublin Smartphone Film Festival or DUBSMARTFF for short is Irelands only International Film Festival dedicated to celebrating work shot on Smartphones and Tablets. No longer is expensive technology a barrier to creativity. The mobile phone has expanded the scope and freedom for filmmakers, providing limitless possibilities in the palm of your hand

We are hosting a series of workshops around the country to encourge people to get out and make films using their mobile phones. We had our first workshop nearly 2 years ago, people kept asking us for help because they saw their phones as a filmmaking device they understood. Although needed was some basic tools to get them started.

The Workshops have been running for nearly 2 years now and the response has been overwhelming. The great thing is anyone who attends gets to be put in a room with like minded creatives all creating on their phones. The results are incredible
