Event description

Description

The DuBard School Speakeasy is an annual "friendraiser" for the school. The event is a fun play on words, as the DuBard School helps students to 'speak easy'. For this one special night, we gather to celebrate the gift of language in 1920's fashion - with prohibition-era beverages, heavy hors d'oeuvres, live jazz music and an open dance floor.

WHEN AND WHERE

The hobnobbin' begins Thursday, Oct. 3, 2019 at 6:30 p.m. The festivities will be at the Bottling Company in downtown Hattiesburg. Guests must be 21 and older to attend.

WHAT IS A SPEAKEASY

Speakeasies were developed in the 1920's during the prohibition era. To hide from the police, speakeasies were underground clubs where guests had to be "members" to attend, needed a password to enter and were asked to "speak easy" as to not garner attraction from unwanted visitors. They've long since vanished, but if you're lucky enough, you'll find some in large cities that still follow the speakeasy code.
