DRUMING IS FOR EVERYONE!
You and your child are cordially invited to Special Miles Center. A glittering experience with our Drum Therapist Jad Balaben - Walkabout Drum Circle, brimming with vibrant hues of fun, rhythms and melodies to sprinkle celestial colors in your life and rejuvenate your spirit.
Drumming is universal and trespasses all cultural, religious, racial and gender discrimination…Every culture on earth has some form of drumming tradition.
Anyone can play on the drum as it does not require advanced physical abilities or musical talents. You do not have to read music or understand music theories to play on a drum, yet it helps set the foundation to acquire and enhance the ability to play on a musical instrument.

The benefits offered by S-miles Drum Therapy program can include:
1. Drumming REDUCES STRESS, ANXIETY, TENSION and boosts the immune system
When we are in a stressful situation, how do we feel when we hit on something?
Numerous studies have shown that drumming lowers blood pressure and releases endorphins in the human brain.
It's fun, it's physical, and it's a great diversion from daily stressors.
2. Drumming accesses the entire brain and INDUCES SYNCHRONES BRAIN ACTIVITY
Studies of the human mind have found that the two sides of a human brain often work at different levels and at different rates. The reason drumming is a powerful tool is that it produces rhythm that permeates the entire brain. The sound of drumming generates dynamic neuronal connections in all parts of the brain even where there is significant damage or impairment such as in Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD).
3. Drumming induces natural alerted states of consciousness and ENHANCES CONCENTRATION
Drumming is an interactive experience. It relies on timing and coordination, both of which force participants to be alert and responsive. When a person is focused on the present moment, alert and responsive, stressful situations from the past are forgotten and worries of the future are diminished.
4. Drumming is FUN and creates a sense of connection with self
Group drumming decreases self-centeredness, isolation, and alienation.
It creates a sense of community promoting communication and involvement within the group. Drumming is also used as a successful team building experience to teach individuals to work together, to listen to each other, to communicate effectively and to achieve common goals.
5. Drumming HEIGHTENS OUR SENSES and our connection with the world around us
Everything around us follows a regular rhythm. For instance, the sun, moon, and seasons follow regular patterned rhythms.
Our own bodies have natural rhythms, which are a part of us every day. Drumming heightens our senses and puts us in touch with natural cycles and makes us aware of rhythm all around us. It helps us acquire discipline and hear the world around us.
6. Drumming is a great means to EXPRESS ONESELF
Drumming is a form of non-verbal body language pushing people towards self-expression and self-realization. Beating the drum gives immediate feedback which helps in expressing oneself instantly. It provides a means by which individuals can hear and be heard. The drummer is at once a unique individual and a useful part of the group.
