Event description

Description

Drum Making Workshop with Rueben George on Friday, August 25, from 7pm – 9pm.
Spend an evening with Rueben George, and spend supported time to finish a drum, and bring it home with you.
Rueben George knows intimately the area around (so-called) Port Moody and the traditional lands and waters of the Tsleil-Waututh. “Our ancestors have always had a spiritual connection with one another. Since time immemorial, we’ve protected these lands together; we were stewards of these lands together. We learned to love and teach our children to have these relationships with our lands and waters.”
Sundance Chief Rueben George is an Indigenous community organizer and spiritual leader. He is a Lakota Sun Dance Chief and ...the grandson of Chief Dan George, the Oscar nominated widely respected native leader.
Rueben is also a former Community Development Director for the Tsleil-Waututh Nation, and is now Co-Manager of the Tsleil-Waututh Nation Sacred Trust helping to coordinate the fight against Kinder Morgan’s proposed tar sands oil pipeline expansion off the shores of Port Moody. Rueben is also in demand as a speaker on spirtual and environmental issues, both across the Pacific Northwest and internationally. Rueben has two children, and is also a drum maker for almost 20 years, having handmade over 2000 drums.
Pre-registration and payment required, $165 fee per drum via PayPal via http://bit.ly/DrumsAtMossom
This workshop will be held at the Mossom Creek hatchery, located just a little further up Ioco Road (from Noons Creek Hatchery) at 12 Mossom Creek Drive, Port Moody.
