Description

The Drucker School of Management and CGU's Transdisciplinary Studies Program Present: Big Data –Separating Hope From Hype

A question often overlooked in the hype surrounding technology: What can we can we actually do with big data, or data analytics, or machine learning?

Can we get valuable investment information from Twitter? (Hint: yes.) Can we analyze how ideas and fads spread? (Hint: yes, but with difficulty.) Can we predict what people will buy based on their online reviews? (Hint: not accurately enough to make a difference—at least not yet.)

Using examples from real-world applications, his own research, and his Introduction to Big Data course, Drucker School Assistant Professor of Practice Hovig Tchalian will help separate "what we know we can do" from "what we hope we'll someday achieve." Along the way, we'll examine both the promise and the perils of big data.

Join us for an exciting, informative conversation. Enjoy breakfast and networking with Drucker School and CGU alumni and friends of the Drucker School.

This event is open to all Drucker and CGU alumni, staff, current students, and community guests.
