Event description
Join us for some textile fun at home in this intergenerational workshop!

About this Event

Calling fiber explorers of all ages! Take some time, collect materials at home, and learn to create textured and colorful pom poms with artist Karyn Lao.

Intergenerational workshops are intended for all ages. In this 2-hour at home workshop young makers are invited to pair up with a parent, grandparent, aunt/uncle, caregiver, friend, or sibling to create together! We recommend participation starting at age 5+

Recommended Materials:

  • 1 cardboard cut into a 3x3 inch square (per participant)
  • 1 metal or plastic fork (per participant)
  • 1 hardcover book (per participant)
  • Various colors and textures of yarn (thicker yarn will make faster poms)
  • Optional: Scrap fabric or an old shirt that can be cut into long strips)
  • Scissors (young makers may require assistance!)

Please note ticket pricing is on a sliding scale. Suggested retail for space in the workshop is $20 per participant. Pay what you can- and if you can support another maker's participation by paying a little extra it is greatly appreciated!

If you are unable to pay for tickets but wish to register please email info@textileartscenter.com

Textile Arts Center (TAC) is a NYC-based resource facility dedicated to raising awareness and understanding of textiles through creative educational programs for children and adults. At TAC, we aspire to unite the textile community and advocate for the handmade by providing accessible, skills-based classes that reinvigorate engagement with traditional crafts. Techniques like weaving, sewing, and dyeing are practical, connective, and process-driven—common denominators around the world. They are part of our collective history and vital to our ongoing expressions of design, art, and culture.

Textile Arts Center is running remote programs! Check out our Young Makers at Home programming for 2021 here! Check out our Adult Classes to expand your textile knowledge, or pick up a new skill!
