Lt. Governor Drew Wrigley Bio

Drew H. Wrigley was sworn in as North Dakota’s 37th Lieutenant Governor on December 7, 2010. He is a fourth-generation North Dakotan, with his family roots in Walsh County and Burke County, where Wrigley Brothers farm still thrives. He was born in Bismarck and grew up in Fargo where his family founded and continues to operate a mechanical/industrial/environmental contracting company.

Wrigley graduated from Fargo South High School in 1984, and the University of North Dakota in 1988, with honors in economics. He graduated from law school in May 1991, and began a year-long judicial clerkship in Delaware.

Wrigley returned to Bismarck in 1998, after serving for five years as an assistant district attorney in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. In 2000-2001, he served as Deputy Chief of Staff for then Governor John Hoeven.

In 2001, Wrigley was nominated by the President and confirmed by the U.S. Senate as North Dakota’s 17th United States Attorney. He led his office’s successful efforts to combat violent crime, large-scale narcotics trafficking, financial fraud and Internet crimes against children. Wrigley was asked to serve in a variety of national leadership roles for the Department of Justice during his tenure, including terms on the Attorney General’s Advisory Committee for three successive U.S. Attorney Generals, John Ashcroft, Alberto Gonzales, and Michael Mukasey. In 2009, Wrigley stepped down as U.S. Attorney to become Vice President of a North Dakota-based Medicare/Medicaid contractor doing business across the United States.

As Lieutenant Governor, Wrigley serves as President of the North Dakota Senate, leads the state’s highly successful trade office, and chairs the North Dakota State Investment Board, the Capitol Grounds Planning Commission, the Higher Education Challenge Fund Commission and the Northern Plains Unmanned Aircraft Systems Authority, along with other boards and commissions as the Governor’s representative. Wrigley was elected to his first full term as Lieutenant Governor in 2012.

Wrigley, his wife, Kathleen, and their three children live in Bismarck.
